For science!
Hello everybody. First post on this forum, but I've been playing GW since the beta weekends. What great weekends those were. Ran the guild [NOXi] Nox Immortalis, if any of you super old school people remember that (probably not, we weren't very well known).
Anyway, the point of this thread is that I'm working on a thesis paper with a couple other people about what we're calling "Cyberization," or MMOGs and MUVEs (Multiuser Virtual Environments, like Second Life) and their interaction with and effect on globalization. Issues being looked at include culture clash, language barriers, and, of course, nationalism.
I've prepared a short little survey (10 multiple choice) questions to gather some empirical data about how players feel on some of these issues. All answers are optional, but the more you fill out, the more you help me out.
If people are interested, I can publish the results here once I have enough of a response.
The survey (in handy interactive PDF form):
http://digitalmass.org/Survey_pub_0001.pdf
If you're having trouble with the email submission system, let me know.
Thanks guys, I appreciate it. For science! (and my degree)
-Anubis

Hey Anubis, I considered something very similar for my undergrad dissertation, good luck! Im currently polishing off my own research paper so I know how much of a pain getting hold of participants can be.
I'll fill in your survey, and I'll be interested in the results.
Whats your hypothesis/research aim?

The hypothesis is that these environments create a global discourse, much in the way that print capitalism created national discourse (nationalism), and how this global discourse feeds globalization.
Cheers! Truly appreciate it
(Heading off to class, so I won't be able to answer questions for a few hours--thanks everybody that helps)

Good Luck.

"handy" is one way to put it. I would say that the PDF was sluggish and the email thing at the end was a pain.
Filled it out anyway.

I didn't have a problem with the format or email.
I'd rather have the chance to fill in my answer with what I want than multiple choice though (too many exceptions).

Well one thing I've noticed is that us players dont often use their country in their name, nor do most uk players (apart from the occasional 'Jack Theleetwhammo Uk')
But a lot of european people love putting their country in their name. I've lost count of the amount of NL, PL, Swe, Cz and Be I've seen in peoples names. De we all need to know you're from a certain country?

All PDFs are sluggish. It's the beauty of Acrobat. The bloody thing takes forever to load, hogs up all your resources, crashes incessantly, needs updated every fifteen minutes, and in the end all it does is display a text file that's slightly less advanced than a typical HTML page from 1999.
How PDF became the de facto standard for cross-platform document transfer is beyond me... it's one of the stupidest damn formats anyone ever produced.
/ sorry... I have deep emotional issues related to PDFs

Would of submitted mine, but that email thing tries to set up outlook. I refuse to use outlook and I can't be bothered copying and pasting all that and submitting it as an attachment. If ya want my answers make a more user friendly way of submitting.
